Brain function and mental wellbeing explained, by Dr Hayley North.

The Division of Operations is pleased to partner with UNSW Wellbeing to offer this special event for all staff. ‘Understanding your brain and how to care for it’ will feature neuroscientist and UNSW Conjoint Lecturer Dr Hayley North.

Improving mental health and wellbeing should start with an understanding of the organ responsible for them: the brain. In this seminar, Dr North will take us on a journey deep inside our brain, from the function of brain cells and neural networks to important brain regions.

Based on that foundational understanding, Dr North will then cover four key principles of brain function and discuss strategies to help it operate optimally, while improving wellbeing.

Topics include:

  • the brain's capacity for change
  • its reliance on habits and subconscious processing
  • how physical health impacts mental health

It is Dr North’s intention than attendees will be equipped with the knowledge to know the steps you can take to work with your brain, not against it.
