As winter approaches, the UNSW Health Service encourages students and staff to have a flu vaccination.
Free flu vaccines are available now at the UNSW Health for all UNSW students and staff.
Flu is a highly contagious respiratory illness which can occur throughout the year but is more common in autumn and winter. NSW Health recommends a flu vaccination each year for everyone aged six months and over.
Symptoms of flu include fever and chills, a cough and sore throat, and muscle aches and pains. If you have any flu symptoms, or have been diagnosed with flu, please stay at home and avoid contact with others until your symptoms have gone.

UNSW Director of Student Wellbeing & Sport, Dr Shona Dutton, participated in our flu vaccination drive for the first time this year.
“I recently received my flu vaccination at our campus clinic and encourage students and staff to take advantage of the program,” Shona said.
“Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect your health and the UNSW community.”

COVID-19 vaccinations
Current advice is to consider a COVID-19 booster every 12 months if you are aged between 18–64 years and without severe immunocompromise. If you have severe immunocompromise a booster is recommended every 12 months and you could consider a dose every six months.

Practise safe behaviours
Please help prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory conditions by:
- staying at home if you have any respiratory symptoms and avoid close contact with others
- sneezing into your elbow or cover your face with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
- cleaning your hands by washing them often and thoroughly
- wearing a face mask in crowded spaces, especially on public transport.
