R U OK? Day is a reminder to trust the signs, trust your gut and ask: “Are you OK?”

Thursday 12 September marks this year’s R U OK? Day at UNSW with several activities around campus.

R U OK? Day highlights the importance of connecting with friends, colleagues and loved ones on a regular basis. If something is not quite right with someone you know, they’ve changed or you think something might be going on in their life, trust your gut instinct and take the time to ask them “Are you OK?”

The Central Lecture Block Courtyard will transform into the Conversation Courtyard between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Thursday 12 September, feature lots of information on how to help those in your life who might be struggling. The Courtyard will see the return of the Gratitude Tree and free five-minute massages.

For the first time this year, Arc will be joining the activities in the Courtyard. They are inviting you to post a secret into their post box and lift a weight off your shoulders.

The Library Lawn will be hosting Tai Chi at 12:00pm and all are welcome to join in, regardless of ability or prior experience.

Caffe Brioso, the coffee cart near the Library Lawn, is once again our generous partner this R U OK? Day. They are offering staff 2-for-1 hot drinks on receipt of a stamped ticket to encourage colleagues to have a conversation. Coffee tickets can be obtained from the R U OK? Day team in the Conversation Courtyard, by those visiting with a colleague or friend.

Staying connected and having meaningful conversations is something we can all do. You don't need to be an expert – just a good friend and a great listener.

Faculties, schools and divisions across campus will also be holding morning teas to mark the occasion, so look out for yours.

You can find more information on the UNSW Wellbeing R U OK? Day website.
