A more connected approach to data is helping lay the foundations for easier access and better decisions.

UNSW’s Data & Insights Team and Enterprise Data Platform have joined the Enterprise Data Office, to support a more connected, trusted and accessible data environment across the University.

What’s changing?

UNSW’s Data & Insights team and Enterprise Data Platform have transitioned from University Planning and Performance (UPP) into the Enterprise Data Office (EDO).

This brings together key data capabilities into one University-wide function focused on making data easier to find, trust and use.

Why the move?

Data plays a critical role in supporting research, education, student experience and operations, but it’s often fragmented, inconsistent and difficult to access. Many staff spend too much time searching for data, validating it or recreating what already exists.

The EDO was established in March 2025 to help address these challenges with a focus on protecting, connecting and unlocking the value of UNSW’s data.

Bringing the platform and team together within the EDO is a practical first step toward delivering trusted, centralised data and improving how data is shared and used across the University.

“By bringing our platform and analytics expertise together in the Enterprise Data Office, we’re creating a more connected and trusted data environment at UNSW. Over time, this will make it easier for our community to access the data they need and turn it into meaningful insights,” said Surabhi Jain, UNSW’s Chief Data Officer.

What does this mean for you?

This change is about making data simpler and more reliable to use.

Over time, you can expect:
· easier access to trusted, high-quality data
· less time spent searching, checking or recreating data
· greater confidence in the insights you use to make decisions
· clearer pathways to request data and analytics support.
