From new learning spaces to a growing innovation ecosystem, UNSW Canberra’s City Precinct is rapidly evolving into a connected hub for students, staff and partners.
A transformation is underway in the heart of Canberra, as UNSW’s new city precinct continues to evolve across the Stage 1 construction site in Parkes and our open campus in Reid.
A newly installed perimeter around the Parkes site marks the next phase of development, signalling the scale of what’s to come as the precinct grows.
At Reid, that future is already starting to take shape in more tangible ways. Splashes of yellow with new UNSW signage. Refurbished spaces – including a new lecture theatre, seminar room and event-ready foyer – are opening new opportunities for teaching, short courses and engagement with industry partners.

These spaces are designed not just for today’s students, but for a more connected way of working – where learning, professional education and collaboration happen side by side.
Beyond the classrooms, the precinct is also being shaped with everyday campus life in mind.
A new café, The Commons, will open soon, bringing a familiar local presence onto campus and creating a welcoming place for students, staff and visitors to connect. Operated by the team behind a well-known neighbourhood café, it reflects the growing connection between UNSW Canberra and the surrounding community.
Looking ahead, plans are progressing for renewal works in The Heart, which will become a central hub for the precinct – a shared space designed to bring people together as the campus continues to grow.
This physical transformation is happening alongside the expansion of UNSW Canberra’s innovation ecosystem. With five collaborators and nearly 50 industry staff already working across the precinct, the vision of a connected education and research hub is already becoming a reality.
As work continues, each new space and initiative is helping to shape a precinct that is not only expanding – but redefining how UNSW Canberra connects with our community, partners and future students.
