The question that should be on everyone’s lips

R U OK messages tied to a tree

R U OK? Day is a reminder to connect with our friends and colleagues and make sure that we support people who might be struggling.

Tai Chi, massages, hot drinks and self-care will be the focus at UNSW as staff are encouraged to reach out to one another and have a chat.

R U OK? Day is designed to highlight the importance of connecting with friends, colleagues and loved ones. It reminds us all to look out for those around us and if we notice something has changed, or something doesn’t quite feel right, to ask the question: “are you ok?”

This year, on Thursday, 13 September, UNSW will mark the occasion with a number of activities around campus.

The Commerce Courtyard will transform into the Conversation Courtyard between 10:00am and 2:00pm, featuring the Gratitude Tree, self-care packages from Student Minds, and free five-minute massages.

The Library Lawn will once again be hosting Tai Chi at 12:00pm, and the coffee cart near the Library, Caffe Brioso, is renewing its commitment to the Day with another 2-for-1 hot drinks offer on receipt of an email booking.

Why not grab a colleague, grab a coffee and take a stroll to the Conversation Courtyard for a chat? Staying connected and having meaningful conversations is something we can all do. You don't need to be an expert – just a good friend and a great listener. So, if you notice someone who might be struggling, start a conversation.

Faculties and schools across campus will also be holding morning teas to mark the occasion, so look out for yours!

The theme of R U OK? Day in 2018 is “Every Day is R U OK? Day”, hoping to serve as a reminder to all to keep an eye out for each other all year round.

You can find more information and the booking link for one of those free coffees on the UNSW Wellbeing R U OK? Day website.
