The artistic residency will be  hosted at the Esme Timbery Creative Practice Lab where emerging artists experiment, collaborate and create.

UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA) has once again partnered with Sydney Fringe Festival to present TheLab@UNSW, The 2026 residency culminates in four original productions presented as part of festival from 16–26 September, spanning dance, theatre, film, music and immersive storytelling. This year's program highlights new works from emerging artists and UNSW alumni.

Sitting Ganaay by Amelia Jean O'Leary, a proud queer First Nations Gamilaroi and Wadawurrung Yinarr dance artist and storyteller, explores connection to Ancestors, intergenerational memory and cultural survival through movement, sound and storytelling.

Tell Distance, by UNSW alum Nasim Patel, combines choreography, theatre and projection as performers interact with their digital doubles through glitched and fragmented storytelling. The work explores how technology shapes memory, perception and the way we experience landscapes and narratives.

Plain Bad Heroine is a bold queer feminist retelling of Faust that combines music, poetry, movement and textile arts. Through an immersive and interdisciplinary approach, the work examines questions of knowledge, power, community and love.

Sleepover, created by performance collective HEAT PACK and UNSW alum Jayden Rathsam Hua, is a genre-bending horror-comedy that transforms a teenage slumber party into a playful and unsettling theatrical experience. Blending live performance and filmmaking, it explores friendship, fear and the monsters that emerge from our imaginations.
