If you’d like to donate, the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood mobile donor centre will be, in front of the David Gonski Chancellery Building on Kensington campus, from Monday 20 to Friday 24 July.
Every day, blood donations are needed to support people undergoing cancer treatment, major surgery, trauma care, childbirth and treatment for a range of medical conditions. In Australia, one in three people will need blood or blood products in their lifetime, but only a small percentage of eligible people donate. A single blood donation can save up to three lives, meaning every donation plays an important role in helping ensure blood is available when patients need it most.
Winter can be a particularly challenging time for blood supplies, with illness, holidays and busy schedules contributing to fewer donations. By taking part in the blood drive, you can help ensure hospitals continue to have the blood products they need for patients across Australia.
What to expect
If you've never donated before, the process is straightforward. The donation takes about 10 minutes, while you should allow about an hour for the full appointment. Before donating, you'll complete a confidential health questionnaire and a brief health check with a Lifeblood team member to confirm your eligibility. After your donation, you can relax with complimentary snacks and refreshments before returning to your day. Donors are also encouraged to arrive well hydrated.

Appointments are essential so please book. Search ‘Kensington NSW’ in the postcode/location field and select ‘Kensington Mobile Donor Centre UNSW’. Walk-ins will only be permitted if appointment slots are available on the day.
