UNSW Online has expanded its postgraduate offerings with the introduction of the Master of Counselling program suite.
Developed by the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA), in partnership with UNSW Online, the counselling suite includes the Graduate Certificate in Counselling, Graduate Diploma in Counselling, and Master of Counselling. Together, these programs will help prepare graduates to address the mental health and wellbeing challenges of today’s complex world.
Master of Counselling suite
As part of the Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Master of Counselling programs, students will participate in a four‑day intensive workshop held at UNSW’s Sydney campus. This workshop, required for Australian Counselling Association (ACA) accreditation, provides an immersive opportunity to strengthen applied counselling skills. Guided by experienced practitioners and collaborating closely with peers, students engage in hands‑on learning designed to enhance professional capability and prepare them for placement.

Counselling placements
Professional placement is a core component of the Master of Counselling and Graduate Diploma in Counselling, ensuring students graduate with meaningful, real‑world experience:
- Master of Counselling: 200 hours
- Graduate Diploma in Counselling: 100 hours
These placements allow students to apply therapeutic frameworks, build confidence in client-facing environments, and develop the professional competencies required for ACA‑accredited practice. UNSW supports students throughout the placement process, helping them secure suitable host organisations and ensuring supervision meets accreditation standards.
