Taking another significant step in our commitment to sustainability.
During Term 2 O-Week 2025, UNSW partnered with OzHarvest to deliver sustainable catering at the official University orientation events across campus. It marks a meaningful step in advancing UNSW’s commitment to a sustainable society and planet.
The initiative was led by the Student Engagement Team (Student Life, PVC Student Success), whose members not only instigated the partnership but also volunteer their own time with OzHarvest.
“Recognising a natural synergy between UNSW’s strategic goals – including our brand colours – and OzHarvest’s mission, the team saw this collaboration as an opportunity to bring real impact to both campus life and the wider community,” said Catherine Keyvar, Lead, Student Engagement.
OzHarvest, renowned for its zero-waste philosophy, provided vegetarian menus made from sustainably sourced ingredients, ensuring every meal helped reduce food waste and promote environmental responsibility.
As well as offering delicious, planet-friendly meals to students, the collaboration also supported OzHarvest’s broader mission of feeding communities in need. All leftover catering was redirected to OzHarvest’s food relief programs within the local community – supporting schools and other distribution channels that provide food to those experiencing hardship.
This partnership is a powerful example of how UNSW staff and students are contributing to a more sustainable and socially responsible future, both on and off campus.
