Complete a questionnaire before Monday 18 August to inform our new ICIP Protocol.
At UNSW we are developing a University-wide Indigenous Cultural & Intellectual Property (ICIP) Protocol to guide the respectful, authentic incorporation of Indigenous Knowledges and Perspectives into courses, research, events and activities. The protocol will provide guidance on ongoing consent, interpretation and presentation of ICIP, the fair and proper remuneration of community members and Traditional Knowledge Holders, and protection of ICIP generally.
The project is being led by Quinton Vea Vea, ICIP Manager, with Associate Professor Brett Biles, Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Engagement & Research in the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Division.
“It’s part of UNSW’s broader commitment to embedding Indigenous Knowledges, which is at the heart of our Societal Impact Framework,” said Quinton.
Terri Janke and Company have been engaged as consultants to develop a questionnaire for UNSW staff, which they will then use to inform the UNSW ICIP Protocol. Dr Terri Janke is a UNSW Law & Justice alumna who specialises in ICIP.
“The purpose of the questionnaire is to learn more about staff’s current understanding of ICIP, how they work with it day-to-day and what tools and resources they need to support implementation of ICIP rights.
“The information collected will be used to develop the principles that will form the basis of the UNSW ICIP Protocol. We encourage all staff to take part,” Quinton said.
Please complete the questionnaire. It’s open now until Monday 18 August and will take about 10 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please email Quinton Vea Vea, ICIP Manager: q.vea_vea@unsw.edu.au.
