On Thursday 27 November, colleagues, families and friends celebrated the recipients of the 2025 UNSW awards related to learning and teaching.
The awards ceremony, hosted on the last day of the Education Festival, recognised and celebrated more than 30 recipients who were greeted and presented with the awards by our Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Attila Brungs. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience, Professor Sarah Maddison, Pro Vice-Chancellor Education Professor Christine Mathies and Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Training and Entrepreneurship Professor Jonathan Morris also attended and announced the awards.
The awards are a testament to the dedication, creativity and passion that colleagues offer to their students and recognise excellence in education and research supervision across four different categories.
Award categories
- The UNSW Awards for Teaching, through eight prestigious awards, acknowledge academic and professional staff who've made outstanding contributions to student learning, student experience and student wellbeing. Six individual staff members and five teams received accolades in 2025 within the eight categories.
The Students’ Choice Teaching Awards are nominated and voted by students, highlighting staff who have gone above and beyond, inspiring and supporting students and their learning experience. Importantly, these nominations are then judged by a student panel, and the winners are selected through this process. This year, five educators received awards for their efforts and impact out of 241 submissions. Watch a video of the award ceremony.
UNSW Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Higher Degree Research (HDR) recognise sustained excellence in the supervision, mentoring and training of HDR candidates, as well as those who have built effective collaborations with industry. This year, four recipients were celebrated.
- UNSW Pass Leaders Awards were presented for the second time this year. The Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Leaders Awards acknowledge and thank senior students who excelled in acting as near-peer mentors as part of the PASS programs – helping other students build confidence, strengthen understanding and feel connected in a supportive learning environment. This year, three PASS Leaders were recognised for their kindness, inclusion, dedication and overall meaningful impact they’ve had on students’ learning and the wider PASS community.
The ceremony was a great opportunity to celebrate the recipients’ efforts and profound impacts across the UNSW community.
