If you are a manager and have casual roles in the pipeline, you can connect easily with students who are a skill set match.

Launched last year, the UNSW Equity Student Talent Pool connects hiring managers directly with pre-screened, work-ready students from low-SES backgrounds and Gateway Partner Schools. They are highly motivated students keen to gain experience and make the most of work opportunities.

With a new pool of 180 candidates, skill sets vary across areas like event support and communications. Profiles are searchable by skill set to make shortlisting straightforward.

Harry Twowig is Senior Program Coordinator of Future You, a free UNSW program that builds children’s interest and belonging in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

“Hiring through the Equity Student Talent Pool helped us connect with capable students who have brought strong skills, enthusiasm and valuable perspectives to our work, while also offering a strong starting pool that enabled time effective recruitment.

“For a program like Future You, which is focused on equity and belonging, it felt especially important that our own hiring practices reflected those values,” he said.

By making the Equity Student Talent Pool part of everyday hiring, UNSW is removing barriers and creating a University where opportunity doesn’t stop at enrolment.
