Introduction of Peer Review of Teaching for promotion and UNSW Teaching Awards

Dear Colleagues

As most of you will be aware, we are now in the midst of the academic promotion round for 2018 and the guidelines have been published at https://www.hr.unsw.edu.au/employee/acad/acadprom.html

I also want to take the opportunity to alert staff, at this early stage, to a significant change we are introducing next year for the 2019 Academic Promotion Round. From next year, we will require Peer Review of Teaching for all promotion applicants who have teaching responsibilities, that is, staff in teaching and research or in Education Focussed positions. Academic staff who have a research-only appointment with no formal teaching responsibilities will be exempt from this requirement.

We are making this change to generate additional ways of providing evidence for excellence in education. Information about the UNSW Peer Review of Teaching process can be found at https://teaching.unsw.edu.au/peerreview

Staff applying for UNSW Teaching Awards will also be expected to have completed a Peer Review of Teaching session as set out in the award guidelines at https://www.hr.unsw.edu.au/employee/acad/UNSW_Awards_for_Teaching_7.05.2018_(002).pdf.

With kind regards

Yours sincerely

Merlin
