UNSW tracks and publicly reports our carbon emissions each year, capturing all our activities from campus energy consumption to air travel and supply chain purchases.
This helps measure progress toward our climate targets:
- 30% emission reduction by 2025 (achieved in 2024)
- 50% emission reduction by 2030
- Net zero emissions* by 2050.
(*Net zero emissions refers to achieving an overall balance between greenhouse gas emissions produced and greenhouse gas emissions taken out of the atmosphere).
The latest carbon emissions data is now live in UNSW’s interactive carbon dashboards. Staff can access the dashboards on Power BI.
What’s in the dashboards?
- Total UNSW emissions from 2018 to 2024.
- Emissions breakdown by faculty and division.
- Detailed breakdown of supply chain and travel emissions.
Why use them?
Understanding your area’s emissions helps you:
- identify which activities contribute most to your faculty or division carbon footprint
- explore practical ways to reduce emissions, such as avoiding duplicated efforts, sharing resources or choosing more sustainable suppliers
- rethink air travel habits and consider lower-emission alternatives
- align your team’s actions with UNSW’s broader climate targets and Pillar 6 of the UNSW Strategy – Accelerate transition to a sustainable society and planet.
