Who will you nominate? 2025 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards

VC Awards

It’s time to recognise a UNSW colleague or team who makes a positive impact.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards, first launched in 2017, give all staff an opportunity to recognise individuals and teams who light up UNSW with their amazing contributions. This initiative honours staff who exemplify the essence of UNSW culture and whose efforts and achievements drive our success. The awards align with the fourth Pillar in our UNSW Strategy: Progress for All – ‘create a culture in which all people are united by purpose and can deliver their best work’.

These Vice-Chancellor’s Awards celebrate not only what people do but how they go about doing it by actively demonstrating the Values in Action, the cornerstone for behaviour at UNSW. In 2024, staff submitted an overwhelming 464 nominations and more than 350 guests attended the event – a testament to the impact and significance of the awards for UNSW staff members.

This year we have three new categories under the UNSW Leadership Signatures. Introduced in 2024, they build on our existing categories by also considering those who are role models of all kinds of leadership.

The three new categories are:

  • Assume the Best: for those that demonstrate care, assume positive intent and foster mutual purpose. They build trust through candid, respectful feedback and conversations.
  • Progress Over Perfection: for those who embrace experimentation, learn from mistakes and prioritise progress. They are brave, open to new ways of working and focus on what truly matters.
  • Excellence Through Inclusion: for those who achieve excellence by including diverse perspectives and collaborating across and beyond UNSW to make a positive impact.

Nominations open on Tuesday 10 June

Please start thinking about who you would like to recognise and celebrate.

To nominate a colleague or team, visit the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards site from Tuesday 10 June and submit a description of your nominee’s contribution to UNSW and how they actively demonstrate either our UNSW Values in Action or UNSW Leadership Signatures.

The new resource hub will help with the nomination process and support and promote the awards.

Nominations close on Monday 7 July

You’ll be able to see all nominees on the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards app and read about their unique contributions. As in previous years, nominees will go into the running for People’s Choice, awarded by popular vote. Voting for the People’s Choice Award will open soon after the nomination period has closed.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards event will be held on Wednesday 13 August, to celebrate the contributions of all nominees and announce the awardees for each category, including the People’s Choice Award. Awardees receive a $5000 contribution per award category to their professional development.
