Start planning your holidays – the end-of-year shutdown dates have been announced.
UNSW will commence the year-end break from close of business on Monday 22 December 2025 and will reopen on Monday 5 January 2026.
The year-end break incorporates:
- shutdown annual leave days: 23, 24 December 2025 and 2 January 2026
- public holidays: 25 and 26 December 2025 and 1 January 2026
- University holidays: 29, 30, 31 December 2025.
The three annual leave days for professional employees (fixed term and continuing) will be deducted automatically, except in approved circumstances where staff are required to perform essential work during this time.
Academic staff who have already taken the required amount of annual leave during the year may work from home on these days.
For those with excess leave balances, any potential direction to take annual leave will commence for professional staff on 5 January 2026 and for casuals on 22 December 2025.
Please review your current leave entitlements, consider what additional leave you may wish to take over the holiday period and talk with your manager about year-end leave arrangements. Any leave applications, in addition to the automatically deducted days, should be submitted via myUNSW.
It’s important to take a break for your mental health and wellbeing, and we encourage everyone to disconnect from work over this time.
To view your leave balance, forecast future balances and apply for annual leave, please sign on to myUNSW and navigate to My Staff Profile > Absence Information in the Manage my Profile section.
More details about the year-end break and requirements to take leave will be shared with relevant individuals and managers by People & Culture later in the year.
