UNSW Sydney leads in graduate outcomes

UNSW’s graduate outcomes are considerably ahead of the national and Group of Eight (Go8) averages for full-time employment and median salary.

The Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) records what graduates are doing four months after graduating and the Graduate Outcomes Survey Longitudinal (GOS-L) records what graduates are doing three years after they leave university. The latest figures show that UNSW Sydney postgraduates continue to earn the highest salaries nationally, both four to six months and three years after graduation. UNSW undergraduate leavers also have the highest rate of full-time employment and highest salaries in the Go8, both four to six months and three years after graduation.

Undergraduate leaver highlights:

  • Top of Go8 for median salary four to six months after graduation for the 6th consecutive year ($68k compared to national and Go8 average, both $65k).
  • Top of the Go8 for the 3rd consecutive year for median salary three years after graduation ($80k compared to $77k nationally and $78k across the Go8).
  • Top of the Go8 for five of the past six years for full time employment four to six months after graduation (74% compared with 69% nationally and 68% across the Go8).
  • 2nd nationally and top of the Go8 for full time employment three years after graduation (94% compared with 89% nationally and 91% across the Go8).

Postgraduate leaver highlights:

  • 3rd nationally and top of the Go8 for full time employment four to six months after graduation (91% compared with 85% nationally and 84% across the Go8).
  • Top nationally for the 5th consecutive year for median salary  four to six months after graduation ($110k compared with the national and Go8 average, both $90k).
  • Top nationally for the 3rd consecutive year for median salary three years after graduation ($125k compared with the national and Go8 average, both $100k).

The QILT GOS-L findings reinforce UNSW’s recent Good Universities Guide (GUG) 2021/22 five star rating for both undergraduate and postgraduate salaries.

Professor Rorden Wilkinson, Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience, was delighted to see UNSW again top the sector for graduate employment outcomes, saying it was a testament to the University’s commitment to providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to secure employment.

“As our graduates navigate their way through a changing economic environment, it is essential they are equipped to achieve their chosen careers. Given the incredible challenges faced by many industry sectors during the pandemic, I’m delighted to see that a degree from UNSW continues to be so highly valued,” said Professor Wilkinson.

The Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) suite of surveys, including the GOS and GOS-L, is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
