UNSW has launched the Triennium One Roadmap (2026–2028), laying out our key initiatives for the next three years to advance our UNSW Strategy: Progress for All.

Our UNSW Strategy: Progress for All sets the direction for the decade ahead. It is ambitious by design, reflecting our shared aspiration to create transformative impact globally through education, innovative research and meaningful engagement with people, communities and partners in Australia and around the world. In 2025, the strategy’s foundation year, we are creating the conditions to set us up for success.

Our strategy will be delivered over three-year periods – or trienniums: Triennium One (2026–2028), Triennium Two (2029–2031) and Triennium Three (2032–2034). For each triennium we will create a roadmap to guide our progress and keep us on track and accountable. Our roadmaps will allow us to balance long-term vision with the flexibility to respond quickly to changes as they may arise over the next decade.

Today we are launching our Triennium One Roadmap 2026–2028, which you can read on our UNSW Strategy website. It sets out our three-year vision for each strategic pillar and identifies the key initiatives we will prioritise to achieve these outcomes – many are well underway, and others are in development.

This roadmap has been developed to guide staff on the University’s short-term ambitions under each of our strategic pillars, and the initiatives and success measures that will get us there. The initiatives are wide-ranging, reflecting the breadth of what we plan to achieve in the next three years across education, research, partnerships and societal impact. While our Triennium One Roadmap won’t capture everything we will do, it shows where our energy will be focused to deliver real impact.

Turning vision into action

Our Triennium One Roadmap will act as a bridge between our strategy and our University Annual Plan.

The initiatives identified in the roadmap will be delivered through our Annual Plan, ensuring our day-to-day efforts are coordinated, strategically aligned and anchored in our long-term vision of Progress for All.

Some priorities are already in motion. We’re refreshing our researcher development programs for Higher Degree Researchers and Early and Mid-Career Researchers, with initiatives like the Scientia Fellows program, the reintroduction of the Scientia PhD program and inclusive development pathways for Indigenous and underrepresented researchers.

We’re also streamlining day-to-day processes, removing unnecessary complexities so staff can focus on meaningful work and experiences. This includes applying ethical, user-centred AI to modernise processes and updating core learning and teaching platforms.

We’re also expanding our presence across Greater Sydney, to bring UNSW activities closer to where people live and work and strengthening our role as the university for all of NSW.
