This year, the theme for Mental Health Month is Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey. So, UNSW encourages you to try or learn something new and take actionable steps for your wellbeing.
October is also Health, Safety and Wellbeing Month, with a range of popular events returning from last year, including Amazing Race, Big Sing, hazard hunts and a Garden Bee with UNSW Urban Growers.
Students and staff are invited to attend any of the shared events happening throughout the month.
Highlight events
World Mental Health Day @ UNSW
Wednesday 8 October 2025, 11am–3pm
Stop by the Alumni Lawn for World Mental Health Day on Wednesday 8 October, where we’ll transform the space into a vibrant hub for connection, calm and community. Visit the information stalls from community organisations, supportive conversations, student-led activities and pick up some fun freebies.
Explore a collection of food and nutrition webinars, presented by Verde Nutrition, including:
- Anti-inflammatory Eating, Monday 13 October 2025, 12–1pm: learn how anti-inflammatory eating plays a role in your health and how diet can help or hinder inflammation.
- Sleep, Stress and Food, Wednesday 15 October 2025, 12–1pm: understand how sleep, stress and food interact and how nutrition plays a role.
- How to Get Into a Positive Food Routine, Thursday 16 October 2025, 12–1pm: struggle with food routines? You'll learn simple tools and tricks to help you get into a positive food routine without the stress, manage emotional eating and plan for barriers.
- Nutrition Mythbusting, Wednesday 22 October 2025, 12–1pm: hear from Chloe McLeod, an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Advanced Sports Dietitian, to debunk common nutrition myths.
- Heart Health: Nutrition for a Healthy Ticker, Thursday 23 October 2025, 12–1pm: discover the key nutrition focus areas for good heart health such as dietary fats, fibre and the role of gut health, plus tips and tricks to prevent and manage heart disease.
Fuel Your Mind: Food on Campus
Tuesday 14 October 2025, 12–1pm
Ever wondered why you feel sluggish after a meal or how the food you eat impacts your mood? This event will bring together a panel including leading nutrition and public health experts to discuss the powerful connection between what we eat and how we feel and think. You’ll also hear about positive changes at UNSW that support healthy eating.
Monday 13 until Friday 17 October 2025
Follow the UNSW Good Food Trail for a special meal deal from six select eateries across Kensington campus. Come with a colleague or explore this trail solo for a nutritious and affordable meal.
Building Trust: How to Talk to Students About Learning Support
Friday 24 October 2025, 12–1pm
Learn practical ways to engage students with disabilities in respectful, culturally safe conversations about their learning needs and concerns, brought to you by UNSW Mental Health Network. With a focus on establishing trust, this session will explore culturally safe communication strategies and empower students to seek help, while fostering an environment of understanding and collaboration.

If you need support
Our mental health is a part of what makes us who we are. Conversations about mental health can sometimes be difficult, but support is available for students and staff.
Students can access support through the Psychology and Wellness counselling service.
You can find the support you need through EAP provider Converge International. UNSW staff members and their immediate family can access confidential counselling and wellbeing services at any time. You can access up to six sessions per issue, per year, free of charge (for Legal Support, it is two sessions).
Mental Health Month is coordinated by the UNSW Health Promotion Unit in partnership with students and staff across UNSW. We aim to empower the UNSW community with the tools and support to make positive changes and make informed decisions that will improve their overall health and wellbeing.
