Grants of up to $US15,000 for trilateral projects or up to $US10,000 for bilateral projects are available, funded over a six-month-period in the second half of 2025.
The 2025 Security and Defence PLuS seed grant program supports development and expansion of research collaborations in security and defence and is open for any UNSW staff to apply. The PLuS alliance universities include UNSW, Arizona State University and King’s College London.
Projects should propose a solution to a security and defence need and the funding will facilitate in-person meetings, the development of a white paper or other outcomes.
Topics of interest cover a diverse range of research areas including space, cyber-security, climate security and artificial intelligence.
Applicant co-leads must be:
- salaried staff members at their PLuS institution (adjuncts are not eligible to be a co-lead).
- citizens or permanent residents of their PLuS institution’s country (due to restrictions in the Defence Trade Controls Amendment Bill 2023 and many defence funding opportunities).
- investigators can be a co-lead on only one proposal.
Applications close Monday 2 June 2025.
