Bringing extensive experience leading complex operations and driving transformational change, Tobi Wilson will start in the role on Monday 4 August.

Tobi Wilson has been appointed to the role of Vice-President Operations and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at UNSW. He will oversee UNSW’s Finance, IT, Estate Management, People & Culture, Enterprise Data and Enterprise Portfolio Management Office functions. Tobi will play a critical role in supporting our strategic ambition of Progress for All, ensuring that UNSW’s operations are modern, people-centred, and enable our academic and research excellence.

“I am really excited to be joining the UNSW team and working with all the incredible people who study and work here.  I have always chosen roles with strong values alignment and societal benefit, and I see a strong alignment with UNSW,” Tobi said.

“I have been fortunate to work adjacent to UNSW for many years, partnering to deliver value for our shared communities. I am impressed by UNSW’s wonderful work and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to join this high-performing institution and contribute in my own small way to the University’s future success.”

Since 2019, Tobi has served as Chief Executive of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), leading a workforce of more than 11,000 staff and managing a multi-billion dollar budget. Under his leadership, the district has delivered public health services to nearly one million people along the eastern seaboard of Sydney.

Tobi is widely respected for his ability to balance strategic vision with disciplined execution. He is a collaborative and values-driven leader, with a track record of delivering sustainable performance while innovating service delivery through digital transformation, infrastructure investment and data-driven redesign.

During his tenure at SESLHD, Tobi led significant changes in care delivery through the implementation of virtual care models, including supporting the community through the COVID-19 pandemic, delivered multi-billion dollar redevelopment programs across a number of facilities, and invested in the organisation’s culture through development of the workforce.

Prior to joining SESLHD, Tobi held senior roles in South Australia and Victoria, where he worked closely with both government and university partners. His longstanding passion for delivering benefits for community, and his proven record in fostering innovation, research and capability development, make him exceptionally well placed to join UNSW’s Executive Team.
