Night works from Sunday 21 September to 28 November will upgrade traffic signals at the Wansey Road and High Street intersection, improving safety and efficiency for our community.
Transport for NSW is upgrading the traffic lights at the intersection at Wansey Road and High Street, Randwick, to make the area safer and easier to navigate for all pedestrians and road users.
The works will remove the existing signals on Wansey Road between Arthur Street and High Street near Gate 11 of Randwick Racecourse. In their place, upgraded traffic lights and a new extended footpath on the western side of Wansey Road will simplify traffic movements and improve access for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
Importantly, these works will enhance the operation of the intersection with the light rail and provide a safer, more reliable crossing for people moving between the campus and Randwick.
Works schedule and impact
Works will take place at night from Sunday 21 September to Friday 28 November, between 8pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday, finishing at 5am on Friday mornings. By scheduling the activity overnight, Transport for NSW will minimise disruption during busy daytime hours.
While the impact on campus will be minimal, students and staff may notice pedestrian detours and lane closures in the area at night. For your safety, please follow all traffic controller instructions and signage, and always cross at the designated pedestrian lights.
Once complete, the changes will create a safer and more efficient intersection for everyone, whether you’re walking, cycling, using public transport or driving.
These improvements are an important step in supporting safe, sustainable travel between UNSW and the wider Randwick precinct.
