The University is one of six Australian universities to rank in the global top 100.
UNSW has ranked 79th in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
The University rose four places in the annual world rankings and is now fifth in Australia. It is one of six Australian universities in the global top 100.
“The rise in our ranking is a positive reflection of work across the University to build our research excellence alongside world-class teaching,” said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) Professor Bronwyn Fox.
The rankings measure more than 2100 research-intensive universities from 115 countries and territories. They evaluate universities across 18 performance indicators in five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.
“It’s particularly pleasing to see an increase in our teaching score, recognising our commitment to excellence in education for our students, and strong scores for research quality, industry and international outlook,” Prof. Fox said.
“Our ranking shows that UNSW is one of the top research and teaching institutions in the world. It reflects our ongoing mission to create progress for all through world-leading research and education. We’re proud that our students study with world-class researchers who are at the cutting edge of their fields, stepping well beyond the textbooks into the unexplored problems that we need to solve as a society.”
