Telecommunication Engineering and Energy Science & Engineering are in the top 10 globally in the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
UNSW Sydney has ranked first in Australia for 11 subjects in the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) in 2025, up from 10 in 2024.
Telecommunication Engineering has ranked first nationally and has moved into the top 10 globally, rising two places to 10th position. UNSW ranked 12th for Telecommunication Engineering for the past two years and was second nationally, behind the University of Sydney, in 2024.
Energy Science & Engineering (6th) has also ranked first nationally and remains in the top 10 globally. This is the second consecutive year for Energy Science & Engineering to make the top 10 list.
Materials Science & Engineering (42nd) and Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (37th) have ranked first nationally and continue to improve globally – they are now inside the top 50 for the first time. Nanoscience & Nanotechnology has steadily improved from outside the top 100 (115th in 2017).
Professor Dane McCamey, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, congratulated the hard-working UNSW community on the excellent results.
“The University’s steady success in these global rankings underlines the breadth, depth and consistency of our research across disciplines. UNSW is clearly a world leader in research quality, as well as impact and reach,” he said.
