The new UNSW enterprise agreement provides a pathway for casual academics to be converted as part of the Education Focussed program.

UNSW is set to grow its community of Education Focussed (EF) academics following the recent approval of a new enterprise agreement for academic staff. The new agreement provides a pathway for exceptional casual academics to transition into an EF position and for academics to be directly appointed to an EF role.

The EF career model was introduced at UNSW in 2016 and is a critical component of the 2025 Strategy. The initiative has grown in numbers and reputation since it began, with more than 220 UNSW academics now part of an active EF Community.

The EF roles foster and reward educational excellence, allowing academics to focus solely on education and be recognised for the vital contribution they make to student learning. EF academics also benefit from direct access to tailored support and resources, including professional development and career development funding.

UNSW Provost Professor Anne Simmons said she is pleased a new phase of EF recruitment is now possible to further enrich the pool of talented educators at UNSW. “This is a fantastic opportunity for UNSW to grow its EF community by converting some of our talented casual and sessional academics to this pathway.”

“We recognise that casual academics are vital to educating UNSW’s students and the expansion of the EF community is an important step in acknowledging their contribution,” said Professor Simmons.

Existing casual academics who are eligible to apply for conversion into an EF position will receive an email at the end of April detailing the selection process and opportunities available across UNSW.
